I haven't heard from one user who likes the switch >(even months later now after the "you'll get used to it" period has >ended). Three people in our group here with PI 4D/35s give a thumbs up for the newer mechanical mice. They seem to move much smoother and give you a greater sense of control. Some people I know with older systems who have tried both wish they could have a mechanical mouse instead. The only people I know who didn't like the mechanical mouse are those who didn't use it with a pad (their systems weren't shipped with one). After they got a good pad, it worked fine for them. Our PIs didn't come with pads either, but after we called SGI about it they sent us some nice thick rubber backed pads which work great. And using alcohol on the metal rollers to clean off the gunk really helps to keep them in perfect working order as a previous poster suggested. -- Richard Mulac mulac@daystrom.lerc.nasa.gov NASA Lewis Research Center, 21000 Brookpark Road, MS 5-9, Cleveland, OH 44135 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Well, judging by his outlandish attire, he's some sort | These pontifications of free-thinking anarchist." - Charles Montgomery Burns | are my own!
