irix 5.3 executable on irix 6.2

hi,

finally got my hands on an Indigo 10000 for testing.
It came pre-loaded with Irix 6.2.

I ran a program on it just to compare speed with our older
R4000 machines, and was surprised to find that the output
of the program was not verbatim identical. The program
executable was compiled on an Indigo R4000 under IRix 5.3.
since it is already an executable, I don't see how compiler bugs
could be a consideration. (compiled with f77. the program is
magicsquash, for X-ray crystallographic phase extension.)

so what is a R10000 with Irix 6.2 doing differently with an
Irix 5.3 executable as compared to an R4000 with Irix 5.3?
Is some of the 32 bit math run as 64 bit or something?

has anyone else noticed similar phenomena? has it caused
anyone difficulties?

(BTW, the 175 MHz R1000 was ~ 3 times faster than the 60 MHz R4000,
but I expect better when we get around to re-compiling under
irix 6.2, and especially if we decide to optimize for the mips4
instruction set)

The program is using dynamic shared libraries for the maths, and these
*are* different. Only programs compiled with the nonshared libraries on
5.3 will not use these 6.2 libraries.

Are the programs statically compiled or are they using shared
libraries? I imagine that the shared libraries are different.

I'm wondering if it's a difference in dynamically linked
libraries?
