I'm trying to compile the whatis database under 4.0.5. I am
getting error messages that nroff, eqn, and tbl are not found.
This is not surprising in itself since we don't have the
Document Developer's Toolkit. What I need to know is this...
is there any way to compile this database so that makewhatis
does not need these programs?

Well, for some very strange reason, I was able to compile the whatis
database this afternoon even though it didn't work last night. One
of those ever present phantom problems. Thanks for those who responded.
