I've come across a failure of the su command to actually set the uid, but doesn't report the failure. The situation is this: A directory on an NFS mounted file system (exported rw, no restrictions) is owned by me, owned by a group that my Indigo doesn't know about, is mode 2750. drwxr-s--- 2 cruff 1558 512 Jan 28 09:22 . I am not a member of group 1558 as far as my Indigo knows, either. When inside this directory, a plain 'su' command reads the root password but fails to set uid=0 and doesn't say anything. Is does return status 1, however. -- Craig Ruff NCAR cruff@ncar.ucar.edu (303) 497-1211 P.O. Box 3000 Boulder, CO 80307
