The .psv file is a special format file to merely restore the InsightII program to a specified state. That is, it describes objects, colors, orientations and other parameters so that the user can save and restore a particular view of a molecule. It *cannot* be used for printing anything. To convert an image to a gif format, you need to initially get it as a true image file. The easiest and best quality picture is obtained by saving the image as postscript file under the Export_Plot menu. Then convert the postscript file to gif using something like xv (a shareware program available at several ftp sites). However, if you have rendered objects (any type of surface) in your image, using Export_Plot will not work. You will have to resort to using either Export_Image or a screen capture. With Export_Image the resulting file is a bitmap image. With the screen capture, the file is an RGB format. Again both can be converted to gif format using xv. However, the resolution of the image is poor compared to the screen resolution. IMHO, the best picture for rendered objects is obtained by actually shooting the screen with a camera and suing the resulting photo. BTW did you save the molecule as a .car file also? You should. -- Jeff Nauss *********************************************************************** * UU UU Jeffrey L.
