Anonymous FTP availability of CLR JPEG library v1.02 ---------------------------------------------------- As the Independent JPEG Group has released their v4 library, I have updated the SGI IRIS GL(tm) libraries I have built around it. These include simple calls to load/save to/from screen and/or memory (in lrect format). This also includes GL sample programs to save a section of the screen to a jpeg file (jsave) and one to display images on the screen (jpaste). These versions of the programs supercede v1.0 of this library (based upon v3b of the library) and versions released by Eric Williams of SGI (thanks to him for bug fixes and enhancements) (based upon v2 of the library). The library can be found on explorer.dgp.utoronto.ca (128.100.1.129) in the directory pub/sgijpeg. The latest version is libCLRjpeg4.tar.Z. The binaries are all compiled under IRIX 3.3.2 and appear to be upwardly compatible. Please read the associated README files for caveats of using JPEG, especially for archiving as this is a lossy format (although a GREAT disk space saver). I have typically achieved compression of 10:1 to 15:1 over standard IRIS RGB files (RLE encoded) or TIFF (LZW compression) when dealing with photographic imagery. This library does NOT include all of the base JPEG code, only the pre-compiled .o files with a set of GL wrappers around it. The full JPEG code (without GL wrappings) can be found as follows: The Independent JPEG Group is proud to announce the fourth public release of our free JPEG image compression software. The C source code, documentation, and test files are available for anonymous FTP from FTP.UU.NET (137.39.1.9), file graphics/jpeg/jpegsrc.v4.tar.Z. The package will shortly be available on CompuServe, in the GRAPHSUPPORT forum (GO PICS), library 15, as jpsrc4.zip. We intend to post the source code in comp.sources.misc and executables in appropriate binaries groups. I hope others find it useful, Rodney Hoinkes Head of Design Applications Centre for Landscape Research University of Toronto Tel: (416) 978-7197 Email: rodney@dgp.utoronto.ca ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ APIAWWGATI "Anything's possible IF and WHEN we get around to it."
