Hello again, This is the third, and hopefully final, phase of the Art department re-equiping. This is a much harder one to define. We already have 3 scanners here but not one of them can live up to its rated maximum resolution or else they have other problems with color, grey scale, etc. The sales-drones tell you to buy the upgraded model. When you try to get the scanner fixed the company goes to receivers (with your scanner there as a company asset!) and of course, there is no hope of a refund. We managed to get the unit back, but no change in its functionality. What I would like is a unit that functions at high resolution, full color, can take up to A4 size images, and works. The image that is produced should be in a popular format or all the conversion software to put it into a common format must be provided. By common format I mean PICT, giff, jpeg, tiff or PostScript. Does anyone know of such a beast? Part of our original equipment problems were due to the Art dept. buying the scanners and not testing them to the peak of their ability until 8 months later when no company wants to hear of you. So this time it would be nice if the device would have an Australian distributor who is willing to put a unit in for a weeks solid testing prior to purchase. If I get enough responses then a summary will appear. -- Mark W. Watson | mark@wehi.edu.au The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute | Ph: +61 3 345 2555 P.O. How much money do you have? If you have all the $ to go to the high
end, you can get a great deal of productivity out of a
Crosfield/Scantronix/Xyvision combination. You would then have
scanning, plotting, TIFF, Scitex R300, Hell, DDES, DSEA, Crosfield,
Scantronix, SGI, and many other file formats.
Surely there is a Crosfield Scanner with enough quality for you.
There are a great many of them on the 2nd hand market.
This is a solved problem, if you have the cash.
Can you give more specifics?
You might also try the Optronics ColorGetter, but I do not think it
scans A4; Optronics support out there is pretty thin.
