texturing onto sphere using sphere library

I'm trying to map a texture onto a sphere. Such that the top and
bottom converge at the "poles" of the sphere, and such that the
texture wraps around and connects at a "meridian."

I'm using the libsphere library to generate the sphere polygons, so
I don't have much (any) control over setting the texture values at
the vertices. I am using the texgen command, but I cannot find
an appropriate set of values to get it to work. Though I can get
close, the best I do gives me part of the texture correct, but all
on one hemisphere, and mirrored on the other hemisphere.

	Thanks,
	Bill
