I've hooked up our SGI CD-ROM (a Toshiba XM 1971) to my 486 using an Adaptec 1542B. The CDROM is a normal, bare SCSI device in all ways except one. If your system asks it what kind of device it is, the CDROM states that it is a fixed hard drive! I understand that this is done because the older SGI machines will only boot from a tape or fixed drive, and not a removable drive. I'm running 386BSD so I was able to do some things in my system to get the drive working. I'm not sure if it's possible to get it working through any other system. -- #include <std.disclaimer> #define FULL_NAME "Paul Dokas" #define EMAIL "pbd@runyon.cim.cdc.com" /* Just remember, you *WILL* die someday. */
