Hi, I frequently need to transfer files/data between sparcs and an R3K. Both have 8mm Exabyte tape drives. I use tar with the default block sizes on both sides. Using the noswap device on the R3K seems to make the transfer work. I never have problems going from R3K to Sparcs. Going Sparc->R3K however, sometimes I get a "Please mount next tape and hit <Return>" message on the R3K, followed by a tape error. When this happens usually I also lose data near the end which seems to vary in size. Any one else run into this?
