SGI HPC User Group (Unofficial) meeting
---------------------------------------

*** NOTE DATE CHANGE *****
We have had some interest from people who could not make
it to the original date - the notice was too short.

Date: Friday 29 November 1996
Place: VISAC (in Physics bld) The University of
            Queensland.
Time: From 10:00 AM Until we finish.

Intro
-----
It all started with Wilfred at UQ and Joe at QUT deciding to
have relevant staff met one day and spend about 2 hours
talking about LSF, ShareII and other aspects of running and
using a POWER CHALLENGE.

However in the absence of a National SGI HPC users group we
decided to open up "our" meeting to anybody else who wants to
attend. Perhaps at this meeting we can discuss the
possibility of setting up an official SGI HPC users group?

This first meeting will mainly be system managers and site
managers talking to each other. If this thing gets off the
ground then future meetings could incorporate an actual users
component.

Please RSVP to Joe or Wilfred at following addresses:-

          wilfred@cc.uq.edu.au
          j.young@qut.edu.au

The agenda below may change - for example IT IS VERY LIKELY
that SGI will have one of their senior people to do a "keynote"
style talk.

Preliminary Agenda (If you have something to add please
------------------ contact Joe or Wilfred.)

10:00 Site 10-15 minute overview of h/w and s/w and staffing
Reports of each site plus an outline of the problems faced
in running/ supporting Power Challenge systems and
generally providing a HPC service with them.

10:30 Batch (LSF) Discussion of how to configure LSF for
Issues different types and size machines, what sites are
doing about checking pointing, how are sites
balancing interactive & batch usage. QUT & UQ
will start off with a review of their
                   respective set ups.

11:15  IRIX 6.2    Discussion of IRIX 6.1 -> 6.2 migration
issues and experience. UQ & QUT will begin with
                   their experiences.

11:45 R10000 Open floor on R10000 issues.

12:15 User Group Next meeting. Do we go National and become
official? If so election of Chairperson
                   and other necessary officials.

12:45 Lunch Have to purchase or bring your own.
& Finish We are not catered this time.

We expect extra items to be added (eg. Keynote from SGI?) so the Finish
time will be more like 3:00 PM.

Cheers - Wilfred.
