memory problem with Personal IRIS

I have a problem with one of my 4D20s. It will occasionally crash with
a memory error (PANIC: IRIX killed due to memory error at physical address
0xXXXXXX). It will do this about 4 times over a couple of days, and then
it's fine for a month or more. Then it does it again.

The problem is that the error is not always in the same place -- not even
in the same bank. And when I run IDE diagnostics, it says there's
nothing wrong with the machine at all.

Any suggestions will be most welcome.

I was having a similar problem with my Crimson last week ("PANIC: KERNEL FAULT"
and a "Bad address" which was different every time). SGI was ready to send
me a new CPU board, but now I think the machine has been overheating because
my acoustic foam panels were packed too closely around it. I had had no problems
with this configuration for the past four months.
