For Sale: 2 SGI 3130 minicomputers
Asking price is $500 or best offer
We are selling two SGI Iris 3130 computers, including (2 of each):
* Case, Power Supply, Card Cage, CPU and other cards
* Hard Disks with several hundred MB of space and Unix installed
* QIC tape drive
* Full complement of memory (16MB) and framebuffer cards (8)
* Ethernet (AUI connector)
* Video output (4 BNC connectors, RGB+Sync)
* 3 serial ports
* Keyboard & Mouse
* Video cables
* Complete SGI documentation
Graphics quality is quite good, and they come with several demos
including a flight simulator (with dogfighting ability if you network
two machines together).
There are a few "gotchas" that you should know about:
* Only one of them has a working video card! We have two broken
spare cards, which you might be able to get one of working.
* Only one working (19") monitor. The other monitor was broken. If
you want to try to fix it, we will include it at no extra charge.
* The systems will run without video, so you can use the one that
doesn't have video as a text only Unix server.
* One of the machines won't boot, because the /etc/passwd file got
thrashed. Human error on our part. It can be fixed by creating a
boot tape using the other machine, and booting with that tape.
* These are 680x0 based, and are NOT compatible with the RISC based 4D
and newer machines. The 3000 series was made during the late 1980's.
* Due to the graphical architecture you can NOT run the X Window
System. Instead they come with a windowing package called "mex".
The units are large: approx. 20" wide, 24" deep, and 24" tall. They
are heavy, about 150 pounds each. The monitor is also fairly heavy.
I don't want to build a crate to ship these puppies, so shipping is
really not an option.
They are located in Santa Cruz, CA. We will be willing to deliver
anywhere within about a 2 hour drive (i.e. the SF bay area) if you
can't come to pick them up.
Please send me email if you are interested!
