I heard from one source that Sun's shipped after 12/7 came with
Jumpstart instead of Solaris; another source gave the date as 12/31.
Ours *arrived* on 12/31 and had Jumpstart.
  We finally *borrowed* a CD-ROM while waiting for our salesperson to
ship us one, and it boots fine now.

thanks again for all your help.

PS Sun didn't install the extra memory we ordered either; just shipped
it in a box. I get the feeling they were in a real end-of-quarter
rush.
