I have a bunch of SMD drives here. I've got two Hitachi DK-815's which
work fine and format properly. I also have a Fujitsu 'Eagle' 2333, which I
connected up to a 7053 ESDM controller yesterday and formated ok using the
parameters in /etc/format.dat on this machine.
However, I also have a Toshiba SMD drive, which after connecting up to the
7053, reports no label when probed by 'format' (just as the Fujitsu did),
but there aren't any format parameters for it. The label on the drive says
it's a model MK-288FC. The label also has 'MKM0718 C ZZ02', along with the
serial number.
This drive in infinitely quiter that the Fujitsu one I have, and 100 times
quiter that the giant Hitachi's! Can anyone supply a set of format
parameters for it? The default /etc/format.dat doesn't list anything. I'm
curious to learn all that I can about it since I'd like to use it in a
non-critical role (being SMD, and physically big, it's likely to work
quite well due to the robustness of it).
Regards,
Craig.
