This is fine. What it says is that for ttya, the init process will run
/usr/etc/getty and use the 'spec.4800' entry to set port parameters. The
terminal type is unknown at startup time. Getty is enabled, hardware
handshaking won't necessarily be used, and the port is marked secure so
root will be allowed to log in.

Ok, this should look like:

spec.4800|4800-baud:\
	:p8:sp#4800:

If you want to be sure that the port is set to 8-bit mode, you can make it
like this:

spec.4800|4800-baud:\
	:p8:sp#4800:ms=cs8,crtscts:

The 'p8' sets the port to 8 bit, while 'sp#4800' sets the data rate to
4800 bps. The 'ms=cs8,crtscts' specifies a list of parameters that are
valid arguments to the 'stty' command. I've found that including this last
bit helps force the port to 8-bits, and ensures hardware handshaking will
be used between computer and whatever is plugged into the port. If you
don't need hardware handshaking, delete ',crtscts' from the gettytab file
entry.

Regards,

Craig.
