If you have a monitor that needs repair, I suggest avoiding Monitor Express in Santa Clara. I spoke with them on the telephone about repairing my 19" Sony monitor and they quoted me a flat-rate price of $150 to fix it as long as it wasn't the picture tube or the flyback transformer. After painstakingly loading the 90lb monitor into my car and driving to their store, I was informed that the price to repair my monitor was now $200. When I mentioned that I had been quoted a price of $150 on the phone, the guy was adamant saying that they have to charge extra for Sun monitors. The funny thing is that I had mentioned that it was a Sun monitor on the telephone and was still quoted the $150 price. I told the guy this and offered to compromise at $175 as I didn't want my time to have been wasted for nothing. He refused to compromise at all, and told me to take it somewhere else if I didn't like their terms. Just thought I'd pass this on so others can avoid my experience. -- Bill Dorsey dorsey@engr.sgi.com
