Q: How do I connect CDROM sparcbook? Other Q's

OK. This is the question I should have asked before....

I have a sparcbook 2 and a Sun CDROM drive. I bought the
cable from tadpole that allows me to attach a scsi-2 cable
to the sparcbook but the sparcbook does not see it. I
later looked more closely at the sparcbook 1 docs that I
have an it talks about a "SPARCbook SCSI Interface Adaptor"
which I thought was just a cable but an illustration shows
a little box in-line.

Do I need this device to use my CDROM with the sparcbook?
If so, where can I get one? Please don't tell me the
only source is Tadpole because I'm sure I would have to
dip into home-equity to afford to buy one from them.

Also, I need this device reload the OS on the sparcbook 2
(the disk somehow got scrambled and it will not boot). I
also have a working sparcbook 1. Could I add the drive from
that machine to the sparcbook 2, boot from it and then use
it to restore the sparcbook 2 disk? Or are the machines
too different for that to work.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
