on-board serial lines

I seem to remember from somewhere that the two on-board serial ports on a
Sun CPU (the ones driven by the Zilog chips) are interrupt-per- character
lines. Is this still the case for the new high-end server systems such as
the 4/490? Are they still Zilog-driven as well?

Thank you.
