Hi, supercompuer gurus:
We are going to get a project which will allow us to burn about
300K to 400K for a new computer. The main task is ocean modeling,
we are going to run several big 3 D CDF codes and water quality
code
on it. Currently, we have a Alliant FX/40, but this one can't
handle this project. Basicly we are looking for 30 to 1 speed
up relatively to Alliant Fx/40 in terms of floating point
computation. We have tested SGI 480, dose not look promising.
We have some reservations about parallel computer, we don't
want to speed a lot of time to rewrite our fortran code to
get the peak performance.
If you have any suestions and similar experience in shoping
for a big box, please give us some advice.
Thanks a lot.
