WORKING CONFERENCE ON
PROGRAMMING ENVIRONMENTS FOR
MASSIVELY PARALLEL DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS
April 25 - 29, 1994
Monte Verita, Ascona, Switzerland
PRELIMINARY PROGRAM AND REGISTRATION FORM
=========================================
Massively parallel systems with distributed resources will play a very
important role for the future of high performance computing. One of
the current obstacles of these systems is their difficult programming.
The proposed conference will bring together active researchers who are
working on ways how to help programmers to exploit the performance
potential of massively parallel systems. The working conference will
consist of sessions for full and short papers, interleaved with poster
and demonstration sessions.
The Conference will be held April 25 - 29, 1994 at the Centro Stefano
Franscini, located in the hills above Ascona at Lago Maggiore, in the
southern part of Switzerland. It is organized by the Swiss Scientific
Computing Center CSCS ETH Zurich. The conference is the forthcoming
event of the working group WG 10.3 of the International Federation for
Information Processing (IFIP) on Programming Environments for Parallel
Computing. The conference succeeds the 1992 Edinburgh conference on
Programming Environments for Parallel Computing.
Format of the Working Conference
--------------------------------
Each day of the conference will be devoted to a specific theme in
programming environments for massively parallel systems. Two sessions
in the morning and one in the afternoon will contain in-depth technical
presentations. Then a critical review of the state-of-the-art of the
day's theme will be given. This talk will also summarize open
questions in the field under discussion. After that small working
groups will be formed. Each group will focus on one of the most
pressing problem of that day's theme, and will try to work out a
scenario to solve that problem. The findings of these small working
groups will be presented informally in the late afternoon. The evening
is open for open-ended discussions.
