In my opinion, your 4 Transputers on the B014 is good for two things:
1. as a testbed for teaching parallel processing concepts to cs
majors.
2. for reactive programs, i. e. programs which interact with the
environment, eg embedded systems, robotics and instrumentation.
If you want to increase performance over your Sun4, there are better
ways than the four Transputers. I would suggest PVM on a network of
SUNs. PVM is a message passing library for C and Fortran from Oak
Ridge National Labs and is free. PVM has a reasonable development
environment.
