**************************************************************** ******* C A L L F O R P A R T I C I P A T I O N ******** ******* HIT DETECTION IN VIRTUAL REALITY ENVIRONMENTS ******** **************************************************************** Dear colleagues, we are looking for research groups that are involved in the development of (distributed) object hit detection algorithms that are needed for object identification and object replacement by users within a Virtual Reality environment. The research group of Prof. Dr. B. Monien, Center for Parallel Computing, University of Paderborn, Germany, would like to point out the efforts done in this area and to present the main techniques in an survey article. We would like every research group that is involved in one of the following areas to give a brief abstract of their project and their used hit detection techniques. The abstract should include a PROJECT NAME, STATE OF RESEARCH, EMAIL ADDRESS, CONTACT PERSON or a full LITERATURE REFERENCE. All abstracts are collected, evaluated and presented in the survey article. Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to: + sequential object hit detection techniques + distributed object hit detection techniques on shared memory as well as on distributed memory multiprocessor architectures + algorithms working on distributed scene data as well as on global scene data + recently finished projects and implementations + current projects and implementations + future projects and implementations The first version of the survey article can be received via ftp within a few weeks at our local ftp server athene.uni-paderborn.de directory: HitDetection/ Thank you in advance for your cooperation, -- Knut Menzel -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dipl.
