Hi, could all those Unisys UNIX gurus out there provide us with some information on the Unisys U6000/51 computer. I would like to know: a) What specification is this machine shipped with as standard ? i.e., What amount of RAM, disk # of processors? b) Is it a badged box ? ( Is is a Sequent/Solbourne ?). c) SPEC marks and performance indicators ? Dare I say MIPS ? You time and effort will be appreciated. I believe that by the time the 51 was launched, 8MB was minimum, but early systems were 4MB perhaps... Disks were SCSI and probably FULL high 5.25" Micropolis in that vintage, 170MB M1375's or 380MB M1578's (perhaps even 760MB M1588's) all unformatted capacities. Also it should have a Archive VIPER QIC drive and a 1.2MB 5.25" diskette. It has 1 CPU, a 386DX at 25MHz with a secondary cache. The I/O bus was ISA and I believe it also supported a Weitek W3167 co-processor as well as an 80387 option. Terminal controllers were probably UN6050-8IO SCP controllers, 8 ports per board. 3 comm ports and a UPS port were on the base system. EGA or VGA was supported as an optional console. Standard configurations were probably a model A with 4 or 8MB and 1 170MB disk, no FPU's, 1 SCP terminal controller. But this was a long time ago now... > > b) Is it a badged box ? ( Is is a Sequent/Solbourne ?). It was a Convergent Technologies Server PC (SPC) 300 Series. CT is no more and is a wholly owned UNISYS company, part of the UNISYS UNIX System Group, along with UNISYS Salt Lake City. Some older systems may appear under other badges through the CT OEM channel, but most were UNISYS badged. > > c) SPEC marks and performance indicators ? To give an idea of the nature of the systems, here are the UNISYS low / mid range systems in brief terms so you can compare H/W type performance. The low to mid range U6000 systems are: (The last 3 in the list are the CURRENT low / mid range platforms, the others are largely obsolete and no longer shipping...). UNISYS HOST CPU / CLOCK / BUS (CT NAME IF ANY) U6000/10 80386DX 20MHz ISA U6000/30 80386DX 16MHz ISA (SPC100) U6000/31 80386DX 20MHz ISA (SPC100/20) U6000/50 80386DX 20MHz ISA (SPC200) U6000/51 80386DX 25MHz ISA (SPC300) U6000/55 80386DX 33MHz ISA (SPC300) U6000/60 80486DX 25MHz ISA (SPC340) U6000/15 80486DX 33MHz EISA U6000/35 80486DX 33MHz or 80486DX-2 66MHz EISA U6000/65 1 to 5 80486DX 33MHz and/or 80486DX 50MHz EISA Currently the ones marked shipping are running SVR4.0/MP O/S as opposed to SVR3 and therefore have performance numbers in the AIM Summer 1992 benchmark reports. The older stuff may be in previous AIM guides. The larger U6000/70/75/80/85 systems are Sequent based and I have not described them here. > > >You time and effort will be appreciated. > > >Steve Fitch o ,__o o /\/\ >Open University <\ _-\_<, []<\ /~~\ \/\ >Management Services Division __/__, (*)/'(*) /> / \ \ \ >Milton Keynes, England. +44 (0908)65 2733 s.c.fitch@open.ac.uk > Martin Cryer SVR4.0/MP Development U6000 Architectures Group UNISYS Salt Lake City All opinions are my own and are not those of my employer.
