unisys monitors, modems and the escape key

Hello,

I have need of information concerning the use of the escape key on a unisys
uvt1224 terminal while connected to a unix box by modem.

One of my contingency has a unisys uvt1224 at home, and says that, whenever
he calls in over a Microcom 9600 baud modem, his escape key "emits a sequence of
characters which include '~' and tends to capitalize letters" on him. This,
of course, makes working with vi a real bear.

Does anyone know anything about this and a solution for it?

Please mail me at the address you see below, or just send the info to this
newsgroup.

Thanks a bunch.
