Actually, there's a patch for the file servers that makes them wait
longer before timing out.  If you haven't installed this, then you should,
if you can somehow get a copy of it (it's called Lisp Patch, or something
equally sensible).  I think there's another service that will
also increase the time out if it's installed (the communications
service maybe?  I'm not sure) so there may be alternatives.
