I have a minisport ZL-1H notebook computer and a ZA-180-90 external 3 1/2" disk drive. I am running DOS 3.3+. Here is my problem: The documentation with the disk drive says it can be used as either a 1.44m or 720k drive. When I configure it as a 720k drive with the device=c:\driver.sys /f:2 /d:0 command in my config.sys, it works fine as a 720k drive. But when I configure it as a 1.44 (f:7) I get a general read error on the drive if i try to do a DIR of a highdensity disk (or if i try anything else for that matter). Is there a different code I should be using? do I have to set some other parameters? I have no documentation for the computer so I am pretty much in the dark. Any help would be appreciated. Also, anyone know where I can get a manual for one of these beasts? Ron McCarty

Several 2" floppy systems and two different hard drive models. One of the hard drive models would only take a 720K disk drive while the other could also be used with a 1.44 MB drive. It sounds like you have one of the earlier models that can only be used with 720k disk drives. To make sure that is the case, if you go in the setup program (CTRL-ALT-INS, then type SETUP), there is a field that sets the floppy drive type. If you can set that to 1.44 MB then it is a new system, otherwise you will only be able to use the 720K disks. - David Paxson daremo@mtu.edu
