I just struck a problem that has bothered for a while. I want to be able to set the screen palette for my MastersPort 286 running MSDOS 5.0. Either from the keyboard directly as with the SupersPorts or through software. Both would, of course, be ideal. Now the problem. I know that the ZDS utility, MACHINE, has a command PALETTE[n] to do this, but when I run it I get a message that says that palette is an invalid parameter. The only thing I can think of that I am doing "differently" is that the version of MACHINE I am running was part of the MSDOS 4 that came with the machine itself. I really do miss being able to vary the palette from within any program as I could on the SupersPort. Any suggestions/solutions will be appreciated. -- Jim Baltaxe - jim.baltaxe@vuw.ac.nz Computing Services Centre - Victoria University of Wellington - New Zealand -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Time is such a valuable commodity because they're not making it any more.

We are currently evaluating the new Z-Note notebooks for use here and one of the major selling points for us is the on-board ethernet connection (as well as the rest of the machine's _obvious_ superiority ;-) but we do need to test it thoroughly on the network. Unfortunately we are running straight TCP/IP and this is not one of the network kernels included with the machine. The closest is the Microsoft LANManager which does allow us to ping other machines on the network, but nothing else. Does anyone know of a packet driver for the on-board ethernet? It is based on an Intel chipset, but I'm sorry I forgot the exact designation. Perhaps somebody as Zenith is working on such a driver? Perhaps in conjunction with Clarkson Uni? Any information would be very much appreciated (particularly by the local Zenith distributor).
