Second Diskette Drive on Z386/SX question?

I have an "old" Zenith 386/SX 16 MHz, the one in the "large" case. It
has three drive bays, from top to bottom:
    5 1/4" -- currently empty
    3.5" -- currently a 3.5" 1.44 M Diskette Drive (A: drive)
    3.5" -- durrently a 40 M hard drive (C: drive)
This is the configuration as purchased.

I would like to add a 1.2 M 5 1/4" diskette drive, which I would like to
be drive B:, keeping the 3.5" drive as A (due to some software dependencies).

The documentation which came with the system implies that the top drive,
i.e. the 5 1/4" if added, must be the A: drive.

The machine comes with a floppy drive cable which looks like this:

controller 3.5 3.5 5 1/4
plug --------plug 1---twist----plug 2------plug

and the 3.5 plug2 is connected to the drive A. I assume that the idea
is that if a 5 1/4 drive is added at the top, it would use the
5 1/4 plug, and the existing 3.5 drive would be plugged into "plug 1"
instead of "plug 2" thus putting it before the twist. (Am I correct?)
Thus the 5 1/4 would become drive A: and the 3.5 would become drive B:
(Am I correct?).

As a solution, I have been loaned a cable which looks like:

controller 5 1/4 3.5 3.5
plug---------plug--------plug1---very long------twist-----plug 2

The assumption is that I can run the the cable from the controller
first to the 5 1/4 drive, then use the very long run to loop
back to the lower 3.5 which would use plug 2 (after the twist).
The assumption is that this accomplishes what I need. (Is that
correct?)

Are there any problems with this solution which can be forseen?

Are there any other possibilities? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Thanks for your assistance.

Sounds good to me. I've done this a millions times (ok, maybe 3 times) with a
Z-248 and some 386 model. As long as you can set your ROM to the correct
settings, it should work. Feel free to experiment. I don't think its possible
to break it. Good luck.
