upgrade for Z-286 LP & ZCM 1490????

I bought a Z-286 LP a couple of years ago w/ a Z-549 video card and a
ZCM-1490 flat screen monitor. I would like to know if there is
anything I can do to upgrade this system. I'd like to go to a 386.

Are there any motherboard replacements possible for this model? Any
other options?

I like the monitor very much, but I've noticed an occasional flicker
that can get quite annoying at times. I've seen some brief mentions on
this group of a problem with the original (either Z549 card or the
ZCM-1490 monitor). Is there anything I can do about that flickering?

If so, then I suppose another option would be to simply buy another
computer w/out a monitor and just use the one I have now. Will other
video cards work with that monitor?

Thanks,

Well, 486 options...

I've heard from a very nice gentleman at ZDS (Jeff Easton) who
informed me that you could slap a motherboard from their current Z-400
series into the LP chassis wiht out to much trouble. Here are your
choices:

  Z-425/SX 25 Mhz 486sx, 4 Mb
  Z-433/SX 33 Mhz 486sx, 4 Mb
  Z-433/DX 33 Mhz 486dx, 4 Mb

"All boards come with 4 Mb DRAM soldered down and three 32 bit SIMM
sockets for up to 40 Mb on board. They have IDE and floppy on board
(not on the backplane board like the LP) and has a WD/Paradise 90C30
SVGA on board as well.

"To fit these boards into your Z-286LP you will need to do some
minor surgery to the back panel of your exisiting chassis with
a metal nibbler tool. The power supply will plug right in and
your backplane will probably work if you depopulate everything
on it thats in sockets.

The fan in your power supply should move enough air to cool all
the SX based boards. If you go DX or certainly DX/2, you will
need another fan blowing right on the CPU heat sink."

You can call ZDS for pricing on these boards...
