Bits lost when downloading at peak loads?

I just spent a fitful 3 hours(!) trying to get fontload to download a
font to my AT&T 630MTG terminal. Fontload initially wouldn't load
correctly. The window would clear, the "raster fill" would start,
and then hang about 4 pixel rows in. Then, I got it up and cached
(finally) after 24 attempts.

Loading fonts turned out to be a nightmare. The little clock would
appear, the hands would turn for a while, but they would eventually
freeze. Even the "abort download" did not work.

I've got my terminal sitting off an AT&T 3B2/400 EPORTS line. Right
now, it's configured for 19200 baud, no parity 8 bits, no encoding,
and rec/gen flow on. This is what I get from stty -a

speed 19200 baud; line = 0; intr = ^c; quit = ^|; erase = ^h; kill = ^u; eof = ^d; eol = ^`; swtch = ^`
parenb -parodd cs7 -cstopb hupcl cread -clocal -loblk
-ignbrk brkint ignpar -parmrk -inpck istrip -inlcr -igncr icrnl -iuclc
ixon ixany -ixoff
isig icanon -xcase echo -echoe echok -echonl -noflsh
opost -olcuc onlcr -ocrnl -onocr -onlret -ofill -ofdel tab3

So, is there anyone out there than can suggest what to do to help
this terminal download without problems? I have never seen it miss
bits in straight text. I doubt the cs7 makes a difference - fontload
works with it in both settings. The only difference between the
machine now (when it works) and before (when it didn't) is that the
load has dropped considerably. Is there some way to enable a
handshake/XON between the terminal to prevent this stuff from
happening?

Thanks in advance!

Leave GEN FLOW ON but turn RECV FLOW OFF!

That should be -ixany.

You should use hardware tabs (-tabs), not expand-to-spaces (tab3).
Actually this shouldn't affect communication with downloaded processes,
if the host support was properly programmed.
