I missed Stephen's original post.  Sorry if this does not respond to it 
in full.

The best children's sci/tech magazine IMNSHO is Odyssey.  Each issue has 
a theme and a variety of articles.  Although I do not publish the 
magazine, I have been consulting editor on two issues to date 
(Cyberspace; The Life of a Scientist) and will consult on two others 
(Superstuff; Imaging, from the Atom to the Cosmos) in 1997.

I won't have time for an extended correspondence, but I'd be glad to 
tell you a bit about the magazine and how one can submit articles.
