AUGUST AGENDA:
Ed Wagner from Engineering Notebook: Icebreaker
Icebreaker is desktop software that enables the project
director at a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or chemical
company to develop a shared Smart Notebook using standard
personal computers, existing networks, and the Internet.
The Smart Notebook (also referred to as a virtual
technical notebook) is used to package, distribute, and
receive feedback about engineering, manufacturing, and
related business information throughout a company's
engineering organization or extended enterprise.
Icebreaker may be used by:
1. Project managers to lower the cost and pain of
collecting, managing and communicating product and
project information with a project team and throughout
an organization;
2. Individual scientists and engineers to effectively
collect, manage and communicate their intellectual
property;
3. Operational and supply-side managers to improve the
dialog and communications with their suppliers;
4. Maintenance and field managers to improve the dialog
and communications with their field organizations.
They will show examples from Polaroid, US Surgical, Chiron
Diagnostics, Cooper Industries, and others.
Icebreaker is collaborating with i4i to make SGML and XML-
based documentation available within the Smart Notebook to
allow end-users to integrate critical documents with other
project information already represented within the
electronic notebook.
