I'm sure it can be done - our company does it.
They use a different printer queue for each type of document, one
for PCL documents & one for Postscript documents. So the user decides
which queue to send it to and the queue driver/manager program adds
the appropriate initialisation string before submitting the document
to the printer. This initialisation string is documented in the
printer manuals, and is quite simple ASCII, such as 'SET LANGUAGE=PCL'
or something like that.
