1. Double space is not aesthetically pleasing. Period.

2. The aesthethically pleasing \baselineskip is value <depends>, no
vertical glue.

Typographical tradition demands that all lines have the same spacing and
that the space that a graphic or other form of insert occupies (white
space included) equals an excact amount of lines. Only inserts should have
vertical glue. Never, never lines. LaTeX 3 people, are you listening?

In general, any one given font should have leading set to 20% of the
fonts's height. This depends on the height of the ascender. But this is
art, not science unfortunately. Implementing it is science.

Actually, I feel that the ultimate way to write style files for PostScript
fonts is to have a (CWEB?) program that takes an AFM file and generates
commands to switch to its particular family.

Say,

afm2sty ACaslon-*.afm should take all .afm's in the current directory
that begins with ACaslon-, and generate a sty file that contains a command

	\Caslon

that sets correct leading and correct information for the \rm, \bf and
\em commands, and might give more macros \ul for ultra, \lf for light,
etc. Of course, the user should be able to decide whether \rm means
regular, medium or light, whether \bf means bold or semibold, etc.

Back to the original issue: 20% it is. But only if it looks right.
