I am using LaTeX for all which follows.
I have a table which is wider than the page so I need to rotate it.
I have found several different rotate macros and settled on using
the one that Paul Davis posted to this group some time ago. It is
the one which has \begin{turn} and \begin{rotate} commands, for
reference. I don't know if this is the best but I could understand
it and get it working. Anyway, I have a table which is set in a
table environment (to float) and then uses tabular. I figured out
early on that since table is a floating environment and fragile, the
begin/end{turn} commands had to be inside the table environment so
that it was only working on the box created by tabular. This worked great
EXCEPT.... The table caption is then not rotated. I could easily just
use the multicolumn and put the caption there and float the table myself
(since the tables in a manuscript for this journal appear at the end)
but then I lose the ability to cross-reference. I tried putting the
caption inside the tabular but LaTeX did not like that. I finally
kludged it by defining a newcounter, incrementing the table counter,
setting the newcounter to the table counter and referencing that.
Unfortunately, it does not put this in the aux file like with a label
so the counter operations have to be before you reference it the
first time. This means that the counter and table are separated in the
manuscript and I lose the ability of LaTeX to automatically keep
track of things. It works but...
So,
1) Could someone suggest how I use the table environment with this
rotate package and actually rotate the caption?
or
2) Is there a way to set a label if I only use the tabular command?
or
3) Any other good ideas.
I will try to see any posted answers but I have not had much chance to
read news lately with working on the manuscript so if you could e-mail
me answers, that would be best.
