c.t.t and a.t readers:

I'm frustrated!

I'd like to get started in TeX. I've seen some of the neat things it
can do, and I want a piece of the action.

I'd like to set my PC up for TeX. I have 640k, hard disk space and a
Hercules/CGA card.

I've read the FAQ (twice!) and the supplemental FAQ (once) and so far
I've managed to get:

sb38tex.zip: Am I right in thinking that this is all I need to produce
                .DVI files?
gentle-tex.tex: Quite a good introduction, judging by the first 500 lines.

dview31.arc: For viewing .DVI files. Doesn't support the Hercules,
which I'd like. The resolution of the Herc is even higher
                than VGA.

Even so, I kinda get the feeling that I'm missing the point of the whole
exercise. Is there an all-included starter kit somewhere? Is there
someone who is willing to hand-hold for a while? How did you get
started in TeX on the PC? Does reading about the packages I've picked
up so far cause people to roll around in mirth in much the same way as
if I said "TeX" in the shame fashion as "_Tex_as"? ;-D

Please help!

Mitch.
