Stupid questions about Tex for the Mac (sorry)

Hello all. I have heard that you will give me a wealth of advice
about Tex, so I am posting some questions. All responses are welcome
and appreciated. Just to let you know why I'm asking: I am
currently working on a curriculum rpoject at Education Development
Center. We are looking to produce publication-quality materials,
and nothing we have tried has completely satsified us. One member
of our project has had lots of positive experience with Tex on the PC,
and has conviced us to give it a go. These questions, however remain
(seeing as we don't use PCs):

1. Is there a preferred TeX for the Mac? We all have Mac IIs of one form
or another. (I've read the FAQ, so I know about OzTex. Is that the best,
or just the only free one? We wouldn't mind purchasing software if
it was better than the freeware.)

2. Could you envision using TeX for geometry materials? I guess I'm
worried about placement of the many diagrams that will be required.

3. Is there a friendly TeX for people who like Word? The big complaint
I'm getting from people is that they can't see the typeset version until
long after they've written it. Is there anything that will give you a
screen preview, say, page by page or something?

4. Do we have any hope of congerting everything we've already developmed
(in Word 5 and 5.1 for the Mac) into Tex, or are we talking about a *lot*
of retyping?

Thank you all for your help.
