Dear all :
This is my first time reading these groups, and it looks like someone
should be able to answer my question pretty handily :
I am trying to write to auxiliary files, similar to a
foo.aux
My problem is that I do NOT want to overwrite the old file, I just wish to
append to it (as in UNIX's >> direction.) Is there a cheap way to do
this ? It seems that the
\newwrite\filename
\openout\filename=foo.awx
commands remove the old file foo.awx so that a
\write\filename{stuff}
overwrites the old file.
I can get around my problem in 3 ways :
1) write to a whole bunch of different aux files
2) define a bunch of macros each time I run TeX, and rewrite the
entire file at the end of the run, or
3) read the original file a line at a time and rewrite to a temp file,
and then manipulate filenames ...
At the moment I am doing (1), as the others are clumsy, but I am
trying to avoid a proliferation of files (i'm heading for about 80 or
so already, each one line long !)
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
robin
