refer question

I have a refer question. I hope this is the right group to ask. Or is
there another news group just for troff and/or refer?

Anyway: I have to use the numbering (superscript format) for 
references. And if there are several consecutive references, say 
3,4,5,6,7, I am required to do it as 3-7, instead of 3,4,5,6,7 which
is what refer gives me.

So the question is how do I do it?
