Porting TeX to SYS V

I am trying (unsuccessfully so far) to port TeX to SYS V using web2c.
Tangle generates what appears to be a good tex.p from the tex.web and
ctex.ch input files. However, web2c croaks with a syntax error when
trying to use tex.p as its input. Email from someone who has
gotten this to work would be greatly appreciated.
