hi!

because of an very old-style datagateway which is only
supporting ASCCI7 chars i have to transform or delete
special characters from data/text (xml) before i sent through
the gateway. Unfortunately there is no other way...
(like encoding ..)

The challenge is, that the data/text can contain all used special
characters from any european (latin) language. I know how
the replace germans ''(ae), ''(ue) and so on.. but i have no
idea how to handle the characters of other languages.
(specially nordic ones...)

So anyone can help me with that? A list with each used
character, code and their replacement whould be great :o)
I know ... it's hardly ever infeasible....

bye,
Markus

PS: next challenge ... how to handle asian characters? ;)

It's easy: use UTF-7, that is 7-bit-wide encoded Unicode. You'll find it on
the Unicode-pages.

recode as UTF-7
