Windows 3.1 on a AT 286

If I install Windows 3.1 on an AT 286 I have no problems.
After some further uses of Windows, it suddenly denies its work.

If I type in:
	win
I see the title page for some seconds and after that I get the following
error message:

Error in standard mode: Adress not in MSDOS memory manager
...	IP: B3FB 	....

	/\
	||
Here I get the current contents of all processor registers especially the
Instruction pointer.

Can anybody give me a hint, why it works sometime and then breaks down ?
I've already tried to save the files:  autoexec.bat
					config.sys
					/windows/*.ini
to a disk. After the breakdown I restored them to the harddisk with no success. 
By the way after installing Windows I also installed Excel 3.0 successful.
Perhaps this might cause any problems !?

I would be very happy to hear any hints I can follow...
