Indeed - the readline() implementation assumes for some reason that
the <delimiter> instance variable is a single character. There's no reason
that it should be - indeed the *default* value is CR_LF (2 chars), which
gives the problem that you describe. It is possible (but fiddly) to recode
the method so that it works correctly.
