You mention about the copy left and other ways of protecting intelectual property. Also mentioned in previous posts was a case of someone takeing code previously released to public domain and doing a port and charging a fee for. This was my only quibble. I didn't want any one making money on code that I laboured over without compensating me. As for releasing the source, I've have made it a point to freely distribute the source to anyone who has asked for it. After reviewing the line of discusion, I do believe that I'm starting to sound like a tight fisted miser with my code and money. This is not the case. Anything that I release with my name on it reflects my abilities. I have run into cases where source has been modified and released in order to make people and various software packages look bad. Lastly, I personally believe that if you are releasing something as shareware, that it would be best sent out as PD ware. If you are serious about making money on the software, you have to give the users a reason to register. The method you use is up to you (crippleware, demoware etc.) but if you give out the whole thing, your return will be very small.
