Beginning Windows Development

I just started reading this group, so forgive me if this has been beaten
to death.

I am just starting to develope some small projects for a windows
environment. The code is mostly low level stuff to be hooked into some
higher level applications. I have most of the code (in C) to run under
DOS but need it for Windows.

My question is what is the minimum (or prefered) resources needed to do
software development for the Windows environment. In particular I need
to build some DLLs and process communications.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Lonnie
