I have a model IBM mdl 80 and am going to get
either the xga or 8514/a card and the question is:
---------------------------------------------------------
Using BC++ can I use the on board video driver vga
to drive a debugging monitor and use the xga for
display of the program?? (I want to know if this will
work before purchasing the video card and another monitor)
or any suggestions???
----------------------------------------------------------
Also, I have just ordered win3.1 upgrade, and can see I am
looking forward to some problems making BC++ work.
what all am I going to need to change?? (does anyone know)
And when will an update be out to BC++ 3.0 ? (just got mine
this year, and am not looking forward to upgrade $$, but
I't looks like I'll need it)
-----------------------------------------------------------
thanks in advance.....robert

In a previous article, IO20081@MAINE.MAINE.EDU (robert eric beckwith) says:

If the built in VGA uses 0xC0000-0xC7FFF in the first 640K
you can't. (It most likely does.) The normal second monitor
is a monichrome (MDA). This is because a mono graphics card
uses memory from 0xB0000-0xBFFFF (I think). When your VGA card
boots it recognizes that there is a secondardy display and
since the adresses don't conflict, everything is fine. If
you try to use a card that needs the same area of memory
as the built in VGA, you have a probelm. Only one display
can be used - period - that uses this address range. (I'm
not up on XGA or a 'real' 8514/a adaptor. Maybe these can
be set to map elsewhere or your on board VGA can, but this
is unlikely.)
