Windows 3.1 speed problems with word processors

We've just had 3.1 installed in my college (yesterday), and while it looks
good and seems to be much better than 3.0 in many ways (I haven't used OLE
or multimedia support yet, but it looks better, the File Manager is a _lot_
better - almost as good as the Wordperfect one now, though not quite for
deletion), there's a problem with word-processing.

We have both Word for Windows 2.0 and WordPerfect for Windows on the network
here, and they seem to be running like a drain - everything takes two or three
times as long to happen. It's put a couple of people off the entire thing of
3.1 just in the couple of days since we got it, and there's serious talk of
going back to 3.0 because of it (one member of college staff with his own PC
has already done so). It seems to occur on both 386s and 486s, though not on
all 386s.

Anyone got any idea what might be going on, and how we can cure it? It would be
a shame to see such a fine new system removed for speed reasons.

Thanks,
Magnus Ramage
