Sound Blaster and Windows 3.1

I've got a Sound Blaster 1.5 and just upgraded to Windows 3.1.
Problem: The computer hangs when trying to execute any sounds in windows.
I downloaded the latest SB drivers from The Toystore BBS. These are
supposed to be directly from CL (at least _they_ told me they were).
Still hangs. Now I did have trouble with some games and such, but I could
always get around it by selecting the Adlib driver in the games. Then it
worked well. But Windows won't allow you to install a driver (or maybe
just won't use it) if it doesn't detect that card. I loaded the Adlib
driver but the sound menu remains dimmed.

Specs: 386/33 w/387, 64k cache, using DOS 5.0, using EMM386 and HIMEM
from Windows 3.1 package (it wouldn't install with DOS 5.0 versions). 8
megs of RAM - 2Meg Ramdrive (using the RAMDRIVE from Windows 3.1). I have
two parallel ports.

SB board - address 220h, Int 7, DMA 1 (all factory defaults). The
test-sbc program works fine and confirms these settings.

Creative Labs has been less than helpful. They told me it was probably
because I had a laser printer on LPT1, even though it was turned off.
Yeah, right. They told me to put SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T3 and
SET SOUND=C:\SB in my autoexec. So I did, but it still hung.

I haven't called Microsoft yet (actually, I haven't gotten through to them
yet). Any suggestions out there? I don't want to upgrade to the new DSP
if it isn't going to help. Please e-mail (or post if you must) and I'll
summarize the results.
