Actual length of text in multiline edit control?

I am using Borland C++ 3.1. I would like to obtain the actual length of text
in multiline edit control but I don't know how to do it. TEdit class only 
provides a method for obtaining the length of a specified line. Do I have to
loop through all the lines or is there a better way?
